cm-casestudy1

Ballylumford power station is a natural gas-fired power station in County Antrim, Northern Ireland owned and operated by AES Ballylumford Ltd.

With its main plant generating 600 megawatts of electricity, it is Northern Ireland's largest power station and provides half of the country's power. Overall the station produces 1316MW. Through the Ballylumford facility, AES Ballylumford generates 50% of Northern Ireland's electricity and 17% of all Ireland’s.

Ballylumford employs condition-based maintenance to reduce costs and increase power generation. After an extended tendering period AES Ballylumford selected NW Total Engineered Solutions as their preferred service partner.

A competitive tender was handled by John Reid, a Maintenance Engineer.

“During the tendering process, NW Total Engineered Solutions came to discuss their ideas and their technical capability and knowledge was impressive”.

Local Base with Head Office Support

Inevitably, AES Ballylumford were looking to reduce costs and have an improved service. “This seemed challenging, until NW Total Engineered Solutions offered us a solution that was both commercially and technically viable” explains the Procurements Manager.

With a local base in Northern Ireland, NW Total Engineered Solutions could offer a very competitive package at a fixed price. The major benefit of the local base was reduced travel costs from the mainland.

Reliable Partner

“Right from the first visit we knew we had made the right choice” explains John Reid. “Steve, the Field Service Engineer listened to our needs and designed a program to suit….He just comes in and gets on with what’s needed. No mess and no fuss”

Reports are issued to a distribution team after every visit. Critical items are highlighted before the engineer leaves site.

“Defected items are acted on almost immediately” explains the Field Service Engineer. “It a refreshing change that these engineers listen, understand and feedback. This makes my job a lot easier!”
